Format
Individual Rounds

Individual Theme Round: The Individual Theme Round is a 40-minute, 8-problem round featuring a theme. Problems can be and are drawn from all high school mathematics subjects.

Individual Relay Round: The Individual Relay Round is a 45-minute, 20-problem round. There are 5 sets with 4 problems each; within each set, successive problems depend on the solution of the previous.
Team Rounds

Team General Round: The Team General Round is a 40-minute, 8-problem round. The team collaborates on ten un-interrelated problems.

Team Guts Round: The Team Guts Round is a 75-minute, 28-problem round of varying difficulties and point values. The problems are divided into sets of 4. Each team will have a runner who brings problem sets from the scoring tables and drops off the team’s answers for each set there. The point value for each problem increases between each set.

There are two individual rounds and each individual can score a total of 160 points.

Each problem in the Individual Theme Round is worth 10 points for a total of 80 points

Each problem in the Individual Relay Round is worth 4 points for a total of 80 points

There are two team rounds that account for a total of 640 points.

In the Team General Round, each problem is worth 40 points for a total of 320 points.

In the Team Guts Round, problems are weighed by set (5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 16, 19 points per problem per set of four) for a total of 320 points.

Team sweepstakes refers to the aggregate scores of the teams from individual and team rounds and is used to determine the final team rankings. A total of 1320 points is available.

Individual round scores account for 640 points (150 points per individual × top four individuals per team).

Scoring

Books, notes, calculators, calculator watches, or any other kind of computational aid are prohibited during all parts of the competition. Laptops, cell phones, or any other electronic communication devices are also not allowed. However, Drawing aids are permitted at DMC. Any individual or team breaking these rules will be disqualified.

Answers need to be simplified and exact unless otherwise specified. Fractions should be simplified & improper, and radicals should be simplified so that the radicand does not contain any fractions nor be divisible by the square of any integer greater than one. All numbers are in base 10 unless otherwise noted.
